Sidney Football Boosters are holding their FIRST ANNUAL REVERSE RAFFLE. For a mere $100 dollars gets you a 1 in 200 Chance at walking away with $5,000 Cash at the end of the night. AND... need not be present to win. So if something comes up and you can't attend you can still win the cash prize, you just miss out on all the fun!
The Reverse Raffle - It is a joint fundraiser with the Football Moms. The committee has been meeting and working hard and I feel that this will be a great evening of fun & hopefully an annual event. I have included a sample ticket for you to see.

Coach Dan Cairns
Head coach Dan Cairns is an ISR instructor at Sidney High School. Coach Cairns is a graduate of Amherst Steele High School and attended college at Mount Union where he played varsity football and was a two-year letterman. Upon graduating college, he was hired at Trinity High School in Garfield Heights in Cleveland, Ohio. While at Trinity, Coach Cairns taught P.E. and Health in addition to coaching varsity football and track for seven years.
In 1998, Coach Cairns went to Brookside High School to become the head football. During his 7 years at Brookside, the football team set several school and state records. Coach Cairns guided the Cardinals to their best record since 1962 and quietly became the winningest coach in Brookside History. In addition to coaching football at Brookside, Coach Cairns was also the head track coach and established a Power Lifting program that won the 2003, 2004 and 2005 State Power Lifting Championships.
In 2005, Coach Cairns became the new head football coach at Sidney. In his five years as head coach, the team has achieved success both in the classroom and on the field. The 2009 team was selected as Academic All Ohio, while the teams win total has increased 4 out of 5 years. This years team hopes to build off last years success with big wins over Piqua, Troy and St. Marys.
Coach Cairns has been married to his wife Brandy for 13 years. Mrs. Cairns is a teacher at Sidney Middle School. The couple have two children, Justin age 11 and Alexis age 8, both of whom attend Sidney City Schools.

Zach Johnson was State Champ in Ohio High School Powerlifting in the 210 weight class. He had the following lifts, 510 squat, 355 bench and 580 dead lift. The Bench and Deadlift set Sidney School Records as well. |

| 2010 VARSITY FOOTBALL RESULTS... |

The Varsity Football Team lost to a tough St. Mary’s team this weekend by the score of 13-7.
The Offensive was led by Adam Neth, Colin Beer and Cole Palmer. Neth led the team in rushing while Beer was 4 for 5 passing for 46 yards and 1 Touchdown. Cole Palmer had three receptions and caught a Touchdown. Palmer also added extra point and did a solid job blocking on the perimeter.
Defensively the Yellow Jackets were led by RJ Heins and Zyler White.. Heins led the team with 11 tackles while white had 9 tackles and broke up several pass plays.
Also doing a nice job on the evening was Aaron Burns who averaged 37 yards a punt.
The Varsity Football Team will be back in action this Friday when they take on Bellefontaine here at Sidney H.S. game time is 7:30 P.M.

| 2010 MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL RESULTS... |

The 8th grade football team lost a tough contest last night to Miamisburg with a score of 6-22. Scoring for the Jackets was Dezmond Upkins.
The 7th grade football results were Sidney 6, Miamisburg 18. Offensive highlights included a 50-yd pass from Bryce Dawkins to Sam Niswonger and a 4 yd touchdown pass from Bryce Dawkins to Drew Willman. The defensive highlights focus was on Lorenzo Taborn causing and recovering a fumble and Isaac Kearns with 8 tackles. Good effort by the 7th grade team!

SHS Football chosen as All Academic Ohio Team
WRITTEN BY EMILY DOENGES
The Sidney Football Team was chosen by the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association as All Academic Ohio Team with a 3.72 Grade Point Average.
To Qualify, the Grade Point averages of the top 22 lettermen for each team were averaged and ranked. Only 20 of the 715 Eligible High Schools throughout Ohio Earned the Coveted honor of Academic All Ohio Team.
Earning Individual Honors were Zach Johnson of the Football Team. Zach was chosen as an Academics All Ohio Selection. This is a true measure of the combination of Academic achievement and athletic excellence. Only 111 of more than 35,000 High School Football Players were chosen for this prestigious award.
Once again congratulations goes out to Zach Johnson and The Sidney Football Team on being Chosen as All Academic Ohio. |

Sidney 15 Troy 14 OT
Congratulations goes out to the Varsity Football team who
won an exciting Overtime game against Troy 15 -14 this past
Friday night. The Yellow Jackets finished strong by winning
their last three games in a row.
The Yellow Jackets and Troy
remained tied 7 -7 for over a half of football before the
game was eventually sent to Overtime. Once in Overtime the
Trojans scored first. The Sidney offense then kicked it into
hire gear by scoring in its first 4 plays. On the final play
of overtime Sidney elected to go for the win and a two point
conversion rather than a tie and a second Overtime Period.
Seconds later TJ Golden went smashing into the end zone to
secure the Sidney win.
Offensively the Jackets were
led by Jack Foy and TJ Golden. Foy carried the ball 28 times
for 166 yards and 1 Touchdown. TJ Golden rushed the ball for
11 times for 59 yards and 1 Touchdown. Credit also goes out
to the Offensive Line who graded out at 80% on the night.
The lineman included Ben Ernst, Zach Michaels, Tyler Minix,
Shane Lambert, Zach Johnson, Zach Goffena, Aric Epply and
Keoni Gredvig.
Defensively the Jackets bent
but did not break. One of the Key plays of the game came midway
through the 3rd quarter when Keenan Lewis caused a fumble
on the 3 yard line and RJ Heins recovered the ball preventing
Troy from Scoring and maintaining the 7-7 hafltime tie. Leading
the defense was Brad Jones, Keenan Lewis, RJ Heins, Adam Bey
and Antwon Thomas. Thomas and Jones led all defenders with
7 Tackles each.
A Big congratulations goes
out to the entire Sidney football team for their 2nd Place
G.W.O.C. finish. A special thank you goes out to the Senior
class from the entire coaching staff for a fine year. This
also marked the first time in over 40 years in which a Sidney
Football team beat Troy, Piqua and St. Mary’s all in
the same season.

Sidney 21 Butler 14 OT
Congratulations goes out to the Varsity Football team who
won an exciting Overtime game against Vandalia Butler 21-14
this past Friday night.
Trailing 14-0 at the half,
the Yellow Jackets came storming back to tie the game up with
3 minutes remaining on the Clock to send the game into overtime.
Once in Overtime the offense kicked it into hire gear by scoring
in its first 5 plays while the defense dominated and held
Butler on 4 straight plays, never giving up a first down.
Offensively the Jackets were
led by Jack Foy who rushed for 97 yards along with Aaron Burns
and TJ Golden who rushed for 66 and 62 yards each. Scoring
Touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets were Jack Foy and TJ Golden.
Defensively the Jackets bent
but did not break. Leading the defense was Brad Jones, Keenan
Lewis, RJ Heins and Antwon Thomas. Keenan Lewis led all defenders
with 14 Tackles while Brad Jones had 12 including 3 Quarterback
sacks for minus 28 yards.

Sidney 35 Piqua 7
The Varsity Football Team beat Piqua this weekend by the score
of 35-7. The Yellow Jacket put together a great team effort.
The defense kept Piqua in check while the offense dominated
the time of possession. The Offense had the ball for 41 of
the games 48 minutes and amassed 450 yards of offense 400
of which was rushing.
The Offensive was led by Jack
Foy, Aaron Burns, TJ Golden. Foy led all rushers with 220
yards while Burns rushed for additional 143 yards. The offensive
line dominated the line of scrimmage for the entire evening
and was led by Keoni Gredvig and Zach Goffena who finished
with 91% and 94% blocking percentages.
The Defense frustrated Piqua
all night and created 4 turnovers. Recovering fumbles were
Keenan Lewis and Grady Hoellrich while Jarod Sowders and Devon
Rickert each had an interception on the evening. Defensively
the Jackets were led by Brad Jones, Devon Rickert and Jacob
Lambdin . Jones and Lamdin led all tacklers with 6 tackles
each.
The Varsity Football Team will
be back in action this Friday when they travel to Butler.

The Varsity Football team lost a heartbreaker to Fairborn
team this weekend by score of 14-10. On offense the Jackets
were led by Jack Foy and TJ Golden. Foy scored the only Touchdown
of the game while Austin Kleinhans kicked a 29 yard field
goal. Defensively the
Jackets were led by Brad Jones, Keenan Lewis, Dylan McCrary
and Antwon Thomas. Thomas also had an interception during
the game.

Sidney 28 Springboro 31
The Varsity Football team lost a heartbreaker to
an undefeated Springboro team this weekend. The Jackets led
most of the game before eventually giving up the winning TD
with a minute & 30 seconds left in the game and lost 31-28.
TJ Golden led the offense with 150 Yards rushing and 2 Touchdowns
while Jack Foy rushed for 123 yards and caught a 34 yard TD
pass from Alex Lochard. Aaron Burns also scored a TD for the
Jackets and had some Big Blocks through out the night along
with Offensive Tackle Keoni Gredvig and the rest of the Jackets
Offensive Line. Defensively the Jackets were led by Keenan
Lewis, Devon Rickert and RJ Heins all of whom had 13 tackles
each. JV: The JV Football team lost 34-13 to Springboro on
Saturday. Scoring were Collin Beer with an interception returned
for a touchdown, Zach Goins with a TD run and Kyle Gray with
a PAT kick. The JV play at home on Saturday versus Fairborn.

Sidney 21 Miamisburg 13
Congratulations goes out to the Varsity Football team who
evened their record to 2-2 with a win over Miamisburg by the
score of 21-13. The Sidney Offense was led by Jack Foy, Aaron
Burns and TJ Golden who each rushed for 90 yards. Zach Michaels
also had two receptions on of which was a two point conversion.
The Defense was led by
RJ Heins, Keenan Lewis, Brad Jone and Devon Rickert. Rickert
led all tacklers with 12 tackles on the Evening. Brad Jones,
Grady Hoellrich and Zach Johnson all contributed with QB sacks
while Antwon Thomas had an interception and Keenan Lewis blocked
an Extra Point. JV: On Saturday the JV Football team won 42-20
over Miamisburg. Scoring were Brendon Croomes who picked up
a fumble and ran in for a TD, Ryan Adkins a TD run, Zack Goins
a TD run, Zane Lewis 3 TD runs, Kyle Gray 4 extra points and
Zane Lewis passing to Ryan Adkins for a 2 point conversion.
The JV's are now 2-2.

Sidney 13 Beavercreek 28
The Varsity Football team lost a hard fought game to Beavercreek
this weekend. by the score of 28-13. The team led early in
the game and was a Touchdown down for most of the game. Jackets
defense played the high scoring Beavercreek team tough all
night while the offense struggled to get on track. Offensively
the Jackets were led by Jack Foy and TJ Golden who combined
for 130 rushing yards. Cole Palmer also had two receptions
and did a great job of blocking on the perimeter. Defensively
the Jackets were led by Devon Rickert, Keenan Lewis, Brad
Jones and RJ Heins. Rickert led all tacklers with16 tackles
on the night. Brad Jones and RJ Heins each had an interception.
JV: Sidney 6 Beavercreek 42. Scoring on a fumble recovery
was Ryan Adkins.

Sidney 20 Bellefontaine 30
09.05.09 JV: On Saturday the JV football team defeated
Bellefontaine 26-20. Scoring were Zane Lewis with a TD run,
Ryan Adkins with 3 TD runs and Zane Lewis passing to Ryan
Adkins for a 2 point conversion. The defense caused 3 fumbles
and they were recovered by Andrew Vela, Kaleb Martin, and
Jacob Lochard.

Sidney 14 St. Marys Memorial 0 suspended
The Varsity Football Team beat St. Mary’s this weekend
by the score of 14-0. The Yellow Jacket defense was the story
of the night pitching a shut out. It was the first time that
St. Mary’s has been held scoreless in an opening game
for 41 years. Defensively
the Yellow Jackets were led by Brad Jones, Devon Rickert and
Keenan Lewis. Jones led all tacklers with 17 tackles on the
night. The Offensive
was led by Jack Foy, Aaron Burns, TJ Golden and Matt Kennedy.
Foy led all rushers with 128 yards and two TD’s. Foy’s
second TD of the night was set up by a Ben Ernst blocked punt.
The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage for most
of the night and was led by Zach Johnson and Zach Goffena
who finished with 94% and 87% blocking percentages. JV: Sidney
8 St. Marys Memorial 14. The JV Football team lost a hard
fought contest to St. Marys 14-8. Scoring was Ryan Adkins
on a 60 yard TD pass from Zane Lewis. Zane Lewis also passed
to Ryan Adkins for the two point conversion.

score of 21-17 before eventually getting worn down and losing
by the score of 45-21. Jack Foy led the offense with 119 yards
rushing, 56 yards receiving and a 96 yard touchdown return.
Defensively the Jackets were led by Brad Jones and Antwone
Thomas. Jones led the team with 17 Tackles.

Freshman: Sidney 13 Beavercreek 21. Scoring were Derek Spangler
2 TD runs, and Kyle Grey with a PAT kick. On Defense Alex
White had 2 fumble recoveries and Ryan Adkins had a fumble
recovery.

Congratulations goes out to the Varsity Football team who
won an exciting Overtime game against long time rival Bellefontaine
47-41.
Offensively the Jackets turned
in several fine performances. Jack Foy, Josh Topp and TJ Golden
all turned in 100 Yard games behind the High Powered Yellow
Jacket Offensive Line consisting of Ryan Freisthler, Dustin
Opsomer, Zach Johnson Zach Goffena, Shane Lambert, Keoni Gredvig,
Zach Michaels and Ben Ernst. Alex Lochard also turned in a
fine performance at Quarterback passing for over 50% and a
100 yards.
Defensively the Jackets bent
but did not break. Leading the defense was Justin Stewart,
Brad Jones, Mike Fincik, Travis Martin and Antwon Thomas.

Sidney 34 Meadowdale 12
Congratulations goes out to
the Varsity Football team who stunned Meadowdale in the Season
opener by the score of 34 -12 in front of a packed crowd this
past Friday night.
Offensively the Jackets turned
in several fine performances. The offensive line had a dominating
performance as they blew open holes for Jack Foy and Josh
Topp. Foy rushed for 106 yards and 3 TD’s while Topp
rushed for 96 and 2 TD’s. Also having a good night was
Quarterback Alex Lochard who completed 4 passes for 95 yards
and 2 Touchdowns.
Defensively the Jackets bent
but did not break allowing only 12 points on the evening.
Leading the defensive charge was Justin Stewart who had a
team high 13 tackles. Other outstanding performances were
turned in by Keenan Lewis, Brad Jones, Travis Martin and Mike
Fincik .
The Yellow Jackets will be
back in action this Friday as Bellefontaine rolls into town.
Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM, Hope to see you there.

High School this past weekend and finished 3rd out of the 24 qualifying
schools at the State Power Lifting Championship. The Power Lifters
had a strong showing by lifting 12,755 Pounds. This total was also
a team high for this year’s team. This is Sidney’s third
year of Powerlifting under Football Coach Dan Cairns.
Top finishers for the Yellow Jackets
were: Antwon Thomas – 1st in the 125 LB weight class. Nic
Waters – 4th in the 145 LB weight class. Ben Doak –
12th in the 155 LB weight class. Jeremy Watkins – 9th in the
155 LB weight class. Mike Fincik – 5th in the 155 LB weight
class. Mark Ahrens – 2nd in the 165 LB weight class. Tevin
White – 6th in the 175 LB weight class. Aric Epply –
2nd in the 175 LB weight class. Zach Johnson – 10th in the
185 LB weight class. Phil Branscum – 6th in the 195 LB weight
class. Wes Epply – 11th in the 250 LB weight class. Dustin
Gregory – 10th in the 250 LB weight class. Ryn Freisthler
– 9th in the 250 LB weight class. Jarrett Lee – 4th
in the Unlimited weight class.
A few of the highlights of the meet
were:
- Antwon Thomas: State Champ in
the 125 LB weight class with a total of 830 Pounds. Thomas also
had the top squat with a lift of 330 LBs in the 125 LB weight
class.
- Mark Ahrens: Mark Ahrens was
beat out by a mere 5 LBs to place 2nd at the state championship.
Ahrens also took first place in the Bench Press with a lift of
315 pounds in the 165 Lb weight class
- Aric Epply: 2nd place finish
in the 175 LB weight class and had the top Bench in his weight
class

1, 2008 - GIRLS STATE POWER LIFTING
Top Five Teams Big School Division: Shawnee 1st, Sidney
2nd, Lincoln West 3rd, Loveland 4th, Sandusky 5th. Congratulations
also goes out to the Girls Power Lifting Team who finished 2nd out
of 8 qualifying schools at the Girls State Championships. This was
the girls second consecutive year that the they took 2nd Place.
Top finishers in their respective
weight classes for the girls were: Leanna Thompson – 8th in
her weight class. Tiffany Lambert – 7th in her weight class.
Melissa Ayton – 6th in her weight class. Courtney Morris –
5th in her weight class. Allison Leonard – 4th in her weight
class. Jessica Hand – 4th in her weight class. Kira Lauth
– 3rd in her weight class. Jessica Griffis – 1st in
her weight class.

The Jackets jumped out to an early 13-0 lead only to lose it in
the second half. Offensively the Jackets were led by Xavier Foy
who had 3 Touchdown passes. Catching a touchdown pass, were Josh
Topp, Jack Foy and Joe Righter. The offensive line was led by Wes
Eppley who led the team in blocking percentage. Defensively the
Jackets were led by Dustin Gregory who had 8 tackles and knocked
down a pass. Blocking kicks for the defense were Josh Topp, Jordan
Goffena and Tyler Jonas. JV: The JV Football Team defeated a 7-1
Butler Team Saturday 16-14. Scoring for the Jackets were Tevin White
and Devin Rickert with touchdowns and Ryan Partin and Corbin Henson
with two point conversions. Zack Michael and Brian Applegate had
big days defensively. With the win, the JV team finished with a
record of 4-4-1.

Sidney 17 Piqua 42
The Varsity Football Team lost a hard fought game to Piqua
Friday night. Offensively the Jackets were led by Mark Ahrens who
rushed for 63 yards along with Josh Topp and Lamar Taborn who each
had 3 receptions. Kicker Brad Yinger also had a 33 yard field goal.
Defensively the Jackets were led by Jordan Goffena who led the Team
with 10 tackles and set a school record for the longest fumble return
for a Touchdown. Goffena returned a fumble 65 Yards for his first
Touchdown of the year and eclipsing the old record of 30 yards.
The JV Football Team blew a 20-8 halftime lead against Piqua Saturday,
however, a 50 yard pass from Alex Lochard to Ryan Partin with 30
seconds left in the game brought the Jackets to within two. Then
Tevin White scored on the two point conversion running behind Grady
Hoellrich and Zack Goffena, thus ending the game in a 36-36 tie.
Also scoring for the Jackets were Ben Ernst and Lawrence Daniel.
Defensively the Jackets were led by Micheal Fincik and Antwon Thomas
who each with an interception.

The Varsity Football Team lost this past Friday to a tough Northmont
team and dropped their record to 4-2. Leading the Jackets on Defense
were Justin Stewart, Spencer Rickert and Keenan Lewis. Rickert had
one of two Jacket interceptions. The other interception came from
Josh Topp who also scored the Jackets only Touchdown on the evening
and led the offense with 87 yards rushing. JV: The JV Team also
lost to Northmont this weekend and dropped their record to 3-3.
Corbin Henson had an interception for the defense while Grady Hoellerich
turned in an outstanding performance on the offensive line.

Congratulations
goes out to the Varsity Football Team who came back from being down
at halftime to score 21 points in the 4th quarter and win their
6 consecutive home game. Offensively the Jackets turned in several
fine performances. Mike Seeger graded out at a 91% blocking efficiency
and was a big reason why the Jackets rushed for over 300 yards.
Leading the way was Mark Ahrens who had 152 yards rushing and 4
touchdowns. Also having big nights were Josh Topp who rushed for
85 yards, Jack Foy who rushed for 80 yards and had 3 catches for
76 yards. Brad Yinger also turned in a fine evening hitting a 30
yard field goal and going 5 for 5 in extra points. Defensively the
Jackets were led by Tyler Jonas, Matt Dieringer, Victor Colon and
Justin Stewart. The Yellow Jackets are now 4-1 on the season. JV:
Sidney 16 Fairborn 24. The JV Football Team lost over the weekend
by the score of 24-16 to Fairborn High School. Scoring for the Jackets
were Zach Michaels and Wes “Buster” Parfait. Each caught
a touchdown pass from Quarterback Alex Lochard. The JV record is
now 3-2 on the season.

Sidney
moves to 3-1 with win over Springfield! Congratulations
goes out to the Varsity Football Team who avenged last years loss
to Springfield South by the score of 21- 13 this past Friday night.
The Jackets improve their record to 3-1 on the season. Offensively
the Jackets turned in several fine performances. Andy Davis and
Mike Seeger led the charge on the offensive line and finished with
an 86% and 85% blocking efficiency. Also having good nights were
Jack Foy, Mark Ahrens and Xavier Foy. Jack Foy finished had 8 carries
for 98 yards and 2 touchdowns, Mark Ahrens had 11 carries for 94
yards while Xavier Foy was 5 for 10 passing for 87 yards and 2 TD’s.
Defensively the Jackets bent but did not break allowing 2 touchdowns
on the evening. Leading the defense was Jordan Goffena, Spencer
Rickert and Tyler Jonas. Jonas and Goffena each had a fumble recovery
while Spencer Rickert had an interception. Goffena led all tacklers
with 12 tackles one of which was a quarterback sack. The Yellow
Jackets will be back in action this Friday when they put their 5
game home winning streak on the line as they take on Fairborn High
School. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm. JV: Sidney 58 Springfield
6. The Junior Varsity improved their record Saturday morning to
3-1 with a win over Springfield by the score of 58-6! Leading the
charge was the Jacket offensive line consisting of Grady Hoellrich,
Zach Goffena, Zach Johnson, Aric Eppley and Keoni Gredvig. The defense
was led by Matt Kennedy and Blake Goins who each had an interception.

Congratulations
goes out to the Varsity Football Team who bounced back from 14-6
halftime deficit on Friday night to come back and beat the Troy
Trojans by the score of 17-14. The offensive was led by Xavier Foy
and Lamar Taborn. Foy had 15 carries for 67 yards and completed
7 of 15 passes for 141 yards and 1 Touchdown. Taborn had 4 receptions
for 98 yards and 1 touchdown. Also showing up big in the win was
Sidney Place Kicker Brad Yinger who hit a huge 27 yard field goal
in the 3rd quarter. Defensively the Yellow Jackets were led by Jordan
Goffena and Travis Martin who each had 10 tackles. Goffena had 3
tackles for a loss including a Quarterback sack in the 4th quarter.

The Varsity Football Team lost to a tough Bellefontaine
Team this weekend by the score of 33-7. The offensive was led by
by Mark Ahrens and Jack Foy who rushed for 31 and 49 yards. Defensively
the Yellow Jackets were led by host of players including Dustin
Greggory, Jordan Goffena, Tyler Jonas, Victor Colon, Matt Deiringer
and Justin Stewart. Josh Topp did an outstanding job all night returning
kicks and punts along with starting two ways.

Congratulations to the Sidney Varsity Football Team who
stunned Meadowdale in the Season opener by the score of 45-8 in
front of a packed crowd at Sidney Memorial Stadium Friday night.
Offensively
the Jackets had several key contributors. The offensive line
dominated the line of scrimmage as they blew open holes all night
long for Mark Ahrens, Jack Foy and Josh Topp. Ahrens had 15
Carries for 119 Yards and 2 TD' s, while Jack Foy and Topp scored
a Touchdown each, and rushed for 80 and 60 yards respectivley. Senior
Quarterback Xavier Foy had a solid night's work by completing 7
for 10 passing, with 92 yards and 2 TD passes to Senior Tight End
Joe Righter.
Defensively
the Jackets bent but did not break allowing only 1 Touchdown on
the evening. Leading the defensive charge was Tyler Jonas with
10 tackles and 1 sack. Other outstanding performances were
turned in by Dustin Gregory, Jeremy Watkins, Jordan Goffena and
Matt Dieringer. Senior Jackets kicker / Soccer Goalie Brad
Yinger contributed 9 points with a 38 yard Field Goal and 6 extra
points on 6 attempts. Brad also recorded his first shut out
of the year as a Soccer Goalie on Saturday. - Report by Coach Cairns.

The Varsity Football Team lost to a tough St. Mary’s team
this weekend by the score of 28-14. The Yellow Jackets came within
7 points on two separate occasions but were unable to rally for
the victory. The Offensive was led by Devon Langhorst who threw
for 181 yards and rushed for 93. The Jackets had several receivers
with multiple receptions. Nic Waters, Austin McVety and Thomas Slife
each had two receptions for at least 45 yards or more. Defensively
the Yellow Jackets were led by Victor Colon, Kyle Adkins, Michael
Williams and Xavier Foy. Colon led all tacklers with 13 tackles
and one forced Fumble. Also doing a nice job on the evening was
Alex Adams who averaged 39 yards a punt, 56 yards a kick off and
was 2 for 2 for extra points.

Congratulations
goes out to the Football Team who went to Kenton High School this
past weekend and finished 4th out of the 36 qualifying schools at
the State Power Lifting Championship. Team scores: 1st Place Kenton
- 13,750, 2nd Place Brookside - 13,550, 3rd Place Beaver Local -
12,765 and 4th Place SIDNEY - 12,680. The Power Lifters represented
Sidney well by lifting over 12, 680 Pounds in their first appearance
in the State Championships. Top finishers for the Yellow Jackets
were: Austin McVety (6th place in the 155 Lb weight Class), Jordan
Mabes (4th in the 145 Lb. weight class), Cory Shrewbury (10th in
the 155 Lb weight class), Nick Waters (3rd in the 135 Lb weight
class), Jordan Young (6th in the 135 Lb weight class), Brendon Erb
(2nd in the 195 Lb weight class), Tyler Jonas (1st in the 250 Lb
weight class), Justin Griffis (10 in the Unlimited weight class)
and Wes Branscum (7th in the 225 Lb weight class). A few of the
highlights of the meet were: Tyler Jonas – Over-all State
Champion in the 250 Lb. weight class ( side note - Jonas just missed
the state record of 610 Lbs on the dead lift), Jordan Mabes - State
Champ in the Dead Lift for the 145 Lbs weight class, Brendon Erb
- State Champ in the squat for the 195 Lbs weight class. Congratulations
also goes out to the Girls Power Lifting Team who finished 3rd out
of 6 qualifying schools at the Girls State Championships. Top finishers
in their respective weight classes for the girls were: Allison Cavinder
(5th in her weight class), Stephanie Benning (5th in her weight
class), Megan Richardson (4th in her weight class), Jessica Griffis
(3rd in her weight class) and Kearstin Holsopple (who was State
Champion in the Squat as well as being the Over-All State Champion
for her Weight Class). Once again Congratulations goes out to the

Congratulations
goes out to the Sidney Football team who took 1st place at the Triad
Power Lifting Invitational. The Power Lifting Team turned in a great
performance as they beat 22 other competing High Schools and won
the meet in convincing fashion. Sidney beat perennial State Power
Urbana and last years state runner-up Marysville by lifting over
12,485 Pounds. Outstanding performances were turned in by numerous
individuals. Placing in their respective weight classes were: Jordan
Mabes – 2nd place in 145 Lbs, Austin McVety – 2nd place
in 155 Lbs, Joe LeMaster – 3rd place in 155 Lbs, Mark Ahrens
– 1st place in 165 Lbs, Jon Sybert – 5th place in 175
Lbs, Brendan Erb – 1st place in 195 Lbs, Aace Johnson –
2nd Place in 225 Lbs, Wes Branscum – 4th place in 225 Lbs,
Tyler Jonas – 1st place in 250 Lbs, Brandon Corner –
4th Place in 250, Justin Griffis – 1st place in the Unlimited
Class, Wes Eppley – 4th place in the Unlimited Class.
Congratulations
also goes out to the Sidney Girls Power Lifting Team Who took 3rd
place at the Triad Power Lifting Invitational. The Girls overcame
a bad start only to finish strong and take 3rd place out of 6 teams.
Outstanding performances were turned in by several individuals.
Placing in their respective weight classes were: Kristen Roby –
2nd Place, Kearstin Holsopple – 2nd Place, Allison Cavinder
– 4th Place, Sasha Hoover – 5th Place.

on Saturday, March 11th when they travel to Kenton H.S. to compete
for the State Power Lifting Championships. Good Luck goes out to
all of the lifters.

Power Lifting
Congratulations
goes out to the Sidney Football team who took 2nd place out of 11
teams this weekend at the Bradford Power lifting Invitational. The
Power lifting team turned in a great effort for but were edged out
by Urbana High School. Outstanding performances were turned in by
numerous individuals. Placing in their respective weight classes
were:
Jordan
Mabes – 6th place in 145 Lbs, Austin McVety – 6th place
in 155 Lbs, Joe LeMaster – 5th place in 155 Lbs, Mark Ahrens
– 1st place in 165 Lbs, Jon Sybert – 6th place in 175
Lbs, Brendan Erb – 1st place in 210 Lbs, Wes Branscum –
3rd place in 225 Lbs, Tyler Jonas – 3rd place in 250 Lbs,
Justin Griffis – 3rd place in the Unlimited Class.
Congratulations
also goes out to the Sidney Girls Power Lifting Team Who took 3rd
place at the Bradford Power Lifting Invatational. The Girls had
a strong showing in their first meet of the year by finishing 3rd
out of 6 teams. Outstanding performances were turned in by numerous
individuals. Placing in their respective weight classes were: Sasha
Hoover – 6th Place, Allison Cavinder – 5th Place, Kristen
Roby – 4th Place, Jessica Griffis – 3rd Place, Kearstin
Holsopple – 2nd Place.
The
Football Players and the Power lifting Team will be back in action
on February 25th when they travel to Triad HS for the Annual Triad
Power Lifting Invitational. Anyone individuals interested in getting
involved with the Power lifting Team should see Coach Cairns sometime
during the school day.

Power Lifting Meet
Congratulations goes out to the Sidney Football team who beat Vandalia
in a Dual Power Lifting Contest over the weekend. The Power Lifting
Team turned in a great effort in their second competition of the
year by beating Vandalia by a whopping 1,065 Pounds. Outstanding
performances were turned in by numerous individuals. Placing in
their respective weight divisions were: Austin McVety, Jordan Mabes,
Cory Shrewsbury and Jeremy Watkins in the Lightweight Division;
Brendon Erb, Mark Ahrens, Kyle Adkins and Jonathon Sybert in the
Middleweight Division and Tyler Jonas, Wes Eppley, Wes Branscum
and Justin Griffis in the Heavyweight Division. The Football Players
and the Power Lifting Team will be back in action on Saturday, February
18th as they travel to Bradford HS for the Bradford Power Lifting
Invitational. Any individuals interested in getting involved with
the Power Lifting Team should see Coach Cairns sometime during the
school day.

The Varsity Football Team lost a heart
breaker this weekend to Springfield North. Jackets fell behind 29-0
early in the game only to come charging back and take a 31-29 lead.
Despite the great comeback the Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome
5 turnovers and lost the lead midway through the 4th quarter. Some
of the top performances were Phil Banker on Defense who had 9 tackles
and 3 sacks for minus 31 yards. Offensively the Yellow Jackets were
led by Tyler Jonas who had 20 carries for 139 yards and 4 Touchdowns.

Sidney 28 Bellefontaine 14
The Sidney Varsity Football Team jumped out to an early lead Friday
night against Bellefontaine when Thomas Slife returned the opening
kick-off 93 yards for a TD. Bellefontaine then struck back twice
in the first half to take a 14-7 half time lead. The Yellow Jackets
were down 14-7 for much of the game before mounting a comeback late
in the 4th quarter. A few of the outstanding performances for the
Jackets Offense were Devon Langorst at QB who was 2 for 6 passing
for 46 yards. Langhorst also ran the ball 12 times for 84 yards.
Mitch Allen also contributed on the offensive side with 5 carries
for 77 yards. Defensively the Jackets were led by David Dorsey,
Jess Geuy, Thomas Slife and Xavier Foy all accounting for 10 or
more tackles. Austin McVety also stepped up on the defensive side
by returning an interception 53 yards for a TD with 30 seconds left
on the clock to secure the Sidney win.
