Swimming Coach Mary Jannides
Coach Mary Jannides is a Sidney
High School Class of 1955 graduate. After high school she attended
Ohio Wesleyan University, where she graduated in 1959. She currently
is teaching history at Sidney High School. She taught at Sidney
from 1959 to 1963 and now in her second stint from 1985 to the present.
This is Coach Jannides 26th season
as the Girls and Boys Head Swim Coach, the only coach in school
history. She has also coached Girls Tennis (1987-2005), Boys Tennis
(1998-2004), Cheerleading Advisor (1959-1963 and 1989-1996), and
Block S advisor from 1959-1963.
Mary is currently on the City of
Sidney Parks and Recreation Board (since 1973) and also is the Sidney
YMCA Swim Team Coach (1978-present).
Last season highlighted Coach Jannides
25th season and senior standout swimmer Paul Miller captured the
100 M Free State Championship. |

In the prelims on Sat several swimmers qualified for the finals
on Sunday. Molly Dyer qualified in the 50 and 100 Free. The
200 and 400 Free relays of Jerika Martens, Cindy Hemmelgarn,
Megan Marsh and Molly Dyer qualified for the finals as did
the 200 Medley relay of Kendra Ganger, Hilary Davis, Marah
Miller and Chelsie Murray. In the prelims on Saturday The
following swimmers placed in these events on Saturday: 50FS:
Molly Dyer 3rd, Megan Marsh 7th, Cindy Hemmelgarn 10th and
Jerika Martens 12th. 100FS: Molly Dyer 3rd, Megan Marsh 9th,
Jerika Martens 13th and Hilary Davis 14th. 200FS: Kaleia Sneed
12th, Marah Miller 15th and Laura Gutman 16th. 500FS: Valarie
Cook 11th. 100Back: Valarie Cook 9th, Kaleia Sneed 13th, Conelia
Dixon 14th and Laura Gutman 16th. 100Breast: Cindy Hemmelgarn
11th, Alex Ordway 15th and Chelsea Coraspe 16th. 100BF: Kendra

Sidney 57, Lehman 56, Botkins 31
The girls were behind going into the final 400 Free relay.
The A relay of Martens, Marsh, Hemmelgarn and Dyer finished
lst with the B relay of Ganger, Kinell, Ordway and Davis finishing
2nd. That gave the Sidney girls the victory. Cindy Hemmelgarn
and Jerika Martens took lst and 2nd in the 200 Free while
Molly Dyer and Megan Marsh took 2nd and 3rd in the 50 Free.
Molly Dyer finished 2nd in the 100 Free and Cindy Hemmelgarn
took 3rd. The A and B 200 Relays took lst and 3rd in that
event. Rachaya Rachatachaiudom placed 2nd in the 100 Breast
which left only the 400 Free relays and the Sidney girls took
lst and 2nd to win the meet.

Sidney 57 Bellefontaine 77
The SHS Girls put forth a great effort against Bellefontaine
with some great finishes. In the 200 Medley relay the Sidney
girls placed 2nd and 3rd. In the 50 Free Sidney almost took
a clean sweep with Molly Dyer placing 2nd, Megan Marsh 3rd,
Jerika Martens 4th and Cassie Kinell taking 5th. Molly took
lst in the 100 Free with Megan taking 4th and Cindy Hemmelgarn
finishing 5th. The 200 Free relays took 2nd and 3rd places
then Rachal Rachatachaiudom placed 2nd in the 100 Breast .
The 400 Free relays of Martens, Marsh, Hemmelgarn and Dyer
took lst and the Sidney 'B' relay of Kendra Ganger, Cassie
Kinell, Alex Ordway and Hilary Davis placed 2nd.

5, 2008 - SHS Invitational
SHS Girls finished 4th overall
Molly Dyer placed 3rd in the 100 Free and 6th in the 50 Free.
The 200 Free and 400 Free relays of Jerika Martens, Cindy
Hemmelgarn, Megan Marsh and Molly Dyer placed 4th in both
relays.

3rd. 100 Free: Molly Dyer lst, Megan Marsh 2nd and Cindy Hemmelgarn
4th. 200 Free Relay: 2nd Jerika Martins, Cindy Hemmelgarn,
Megan Marsh, and Molly Dyer. 100 Backstroke: Jerika Martins
4th and Kendra Ganger 5th. 100 Breaststroke: Cindy Hemmelgarn
3rd and Rachel Rachatachaiudom 5th. 400 Free Relay: lst Jerika
Martins, Megan Marsh, Cindy Hemmelgarn and Molly Dyer. Molly
Dyer had a good meet finishing lst in the 200 IM and 100 Free
plus anchoring the 400 relay that finished lst. Megan Marsh
was 2nd in the 50 and 100 Free, the 200 relay and on the winning
400 relay. The SHS swim team will have their next meet Saturday
Dec 15 against Celina at the Y starting at 5pm.

9/10, 2007 - SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT
The SHS Girls competed Saturday at the Washington Township Rec Center
in Centerville. They finished in 15th place overall. Molly Dyer
finished 11th in the 100 Free and 16th in the 50 Free. The 200 Free
relay of Megan Marsh, Lizzy Kunk, Cindy Hemmelgarn and Molly Dyer
finished 14th and the same relay team finished 12th in the 400 Free
Relay. It was a great day for the SHS Swimmers!
January
27/28, 2007 - GWOC Meet
The Girls team, with 7 girls, finished 13th in the league. Prelims:
Molly Dyer placed 4th in the 50 Free at 27.79 and 4th in the 100
Free at 1:00.54. The 200 Medley relay placed 4th at 2:41.08 (Aleshya
Current, Natsumi Watanabe, Amanda Bolin and Melody Mitro). The 200
Free Relay placed 4th at 2:01.41 (Megan Marsh, Jerika Martens, Cindy
Hemmelgarn and Molly Dyer). The 400 Free Relay placed 4th at 4:41.15
(Megan Marsh, Jerika Martens, Lizzy Kunk, and Molly Dyer). Finals:
Molly Dyer placed 15th in the 100 Free at 1:00.95. The 200 Medley
relay placed 14th at 2:34.43 (Molly Dyer, Natsumi Watanabe, Amanda
Bolin and Melody Mitro). The 200 Free relay placed 12th at 1:58.86
(Megan Marsh, Lizzy Kunk, Cindy Hemmelgarn and Molly Dyer). The
400 Free Relay placed 11th at 4:29.84 (Megan Marsh, Lizzy Kunk,
Cindy Hemmelgarn and Molly Dyer). Due to illness the make up
of the relays changed. All three relays dropped time in the
finals Sunday. It was a great weekend for the girls as this was
the 1st time they qualified for the finals.
January
13, 2007 - Trotwood Classic
Molly Dyer had a great weekend placing 9th in the 100yard Butterfly
with her best time, 11th in the 50 Free and 13th in the 100 Free.
Aleysha Current placed 9th in the 50 Back. The 200 yard Free Relay
of Jerika Martens, Megan Marsh, Cindy Hemmelgarn and Molly Dyer
placed 14th. The 400 Free Relay with Megan Marsh, Lizzy Kunk, Cindy
Hemmelgarn and Molly Dyer placed 14th. The 400 Medley relay of Jerika
Martens, Molly Dyer, Megan Marsh and Cindy Hemmelgarn placed 15th.

01.15.06 Note:
The Team participated in the largest Swim Invitational meet in the
United States with 2500 swimmers and divers participating. There
are 7 preliminary sites and then the finalist swim at Keating Natatorium
in the evening. This is only in the Southwest district of Ohio and
the swimmers that get to the finals are usually the ones that will
be appearing at States next month!
January 15, 2006 - Southwest
District Classic Meet
The girls 200 Free Relay of Lizzy Kunk, Hilary Davis,
Cindy Hemmelgarn and Megan Marsh finished 14th in the Prelims. The
400 Free relay of Lizzy Kunk, Jerika Martens, Megan Marsh and Cindy
Hemmelgarn finished 16th in the prelims. All the girls in the relays
were 9th and 10th graders so SHS has a young and upcoming team of
girls. It was a great meet for the whole team as each swimmer was
swimming their personal best times and with GWOC championships coming
in 2 weeks that is a plus for the team that all are doing well.
